Two Shots of Snow and Bitter Cold!

After a chilly weekend, Monday looks to bring a mix of clouds and sun, with temperatures topping out in the middle to upper 30s area-wide! Not a bad teaser before the snow arrives and cold arrives! By Monday night, an Alberta Clipper will race towards the tri-state, bringing with it much colder temperatures and accumulating snow! By midday Tuesday, many areas will be looking at a solid 1-3″ of fresh snowfall! Highs will struggle to make it out of the upper 20s on Tuesday, with wind chills in the single digits or lower (due to gusty northwesterly winds). We get a brief break on Wednesday as an area of high pressure settles into the Ohio Valley, causing the cold to really sink in. Highs on Wednesday will stay in the lower 20s! By Wednesday night, another Alberta Clipper will cross the area, once again bringing an even colder shot of air and more accumulating snow! From the second clipper, I expect most areas to receive 2-4″ of fresh snowfall! After Wednesday, temps will fall into the teens for highs and at or below zero for lows, with bitter wind chills! From both clippers combined, I expect a good 3-7″ of snowfall on the ground! That snowcover will really help add to the bitter air across the area, allowing for lows to drop below zero for many areas by late-week! That is DANGEROUS cold! Bundle up when venturing outside later this week, as temperatures around zero or lower can cause hypothermia and skin damage very rapidly!

Winter Weather Advisory

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the entire tri-state through 4pm Tuesday. An area of low pressure is currently developing to our south, and will slide north through the day, passing just to our east. For the morning hours, expect areas of freezing rain and sleet to cross the tri-state, resulting in some slick traveling! PLEASE take it slow out there as temps will be below freezing, so what may look like wet pavement may actually be a glazing of ice! While large amounts/accumulations of ice are not expected, 0.10″-0.15″ is likely, resulting in slick travel (not enough to damage property, but enough to create travel nightmares). As the day progresses, temperatures will rise above freezing, resulting in a changeover to plain rain during the afternoon hours, which will taper off completely by the evening.

About

Trevor Cole

My name is Trevor Cole and I am a MAJOR weather nut! My passion for the weather branches back to April 9, 1999, when a major F-4 tornado roared through my neighborhood, destroying my house! I can’t even begin to tell you how much that event changed my life. From a new house (over the same foundation) to new interests, the tornado definitely was a major obstacle in my life. If some good is to be told about the tornado, it really helped bring our city together, by showing everyone that possessions, are, well, possessions, and nothing can even compete with family and friends. Ever since the tornado, I have not been able to stop thinking about the weather. It is everywhere, even in the simplest form! We go about our daily lives dealing with the weather, which will always affect us! That just really interests and fascinates me! Something as simple as a severe thunderstorm with favorable upper level winds can produce a tornado that ravages an area, changing it forever in a matter of seconds! I don’t know about you, but I find that downright mesmerizing! Well, as the years passed, “weather” would not vanish, and I began creating forecasts and maps. Those simple forecasts then blossomed into Cincy Forecast! I started this website in the Spring of 2006, and have constantly been adding and fine-tuning its features and elements! At the same time, I have been doing a copious amount of research to help better increase my knowledge and skills of the weather. My goal is to provide you with the most accurate forecast for the Cincinnati area, and with each passing day, I grow more and more confident that my goal is being accomplished. Weather is far from being a perfect science, so I will not be right 100% of the time. However, I feel that with the knowledge that I have gained over the years, I will be able to sit comfortably in the realm of accuracy with most of the forecasts I release. I hope you enjoy Cincy Forecast as much as I enjoy providing it for you! :-)

Dry for Monday…Rain Returns for Tuesday

After a somewhat dreary weekend, the sun is back in full force for Monday! An area of high pressure will be sliding across the tri-state, allowing for mostly sunny skies and cooler temperatures! The break from the rain, however, will be very short-lived. By Tuesday morning, an area of low pressure will begin its trek northward, right towards the Ohio Valley. As it does so, slightly milder air will pump north out ahead of the low. One little “iffy” factor with the storm system is the speed at which the warm air arrives in relation to the precipitation. If the cold air recedes slower, then we could be looking at a wintry mix during the morning hours of Tuesday. However, if the cold air recedes faster, the threat of any mixing would be greatly reduced. At this point in time, I am going to take the middle ground and toss a bit of a mixed bag into the forecast for a very breif time on Tuesday morning. I really don’t think it will be enough to cause any major or widespread problems, but any ice (as we all know) can still create some isolated slick spots out there! By midday Tuesday, the temperatures will have warmed up enough to support all rain, with some isolated heavy pockets possible. The heaviest rain looks to stay to our south and east, however, as the low will be tracking to our east, placing Cincy in the somewhat “drier” part of the storm. With that being said, still expect a good quarter to half of an inch of rain out of this event. As colder air begins crashing back into the tri-state on Wednesday morning, expect whatever moisture that is leftover to begin changing to light snow showers/flurries with little in the way of accumuation (sorry snow lovers).
