Heavy Snow and Ice on the Way!
Posted by Trevor Cole in Daily Weather Updates on 26-01-2009
After some decent snow showers on Sunday, Monday looks to be fairly similar. Scattered snow showers/flurries are a possibility at any time, but they shouldn’t cause too much of a problem. Highs for Monday will struggle to make it out of the middle 20s! As Monday night rolls around, temps will begin to drop, and the snow will begin to increase in coverage (after midnight). The snow will continue, heavy at times, through midday Tuesday (2-4″ of accumulation in metro). Some freezing rain and sleet may mix in at times, mainly south of the Ohio River. It appears that we will see a bit of a lull in the precip for Tuesday afternoon. However, by Tuesday evening, snow, sleet, and freezing rain will once again move back into the tri-state. The precip will be heavy at times. I expect another 3-4″ of snow for the metro, as well as some decent icing by midday Wednesday. In the end, I expect a solid 5-8″ (iso 9″) of snow to have fallen, along with up to 0.40″ of sleet/freezing rain (in the metro)! That is a MAJOR winter storm! Most schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the possibilty of more rural closings lasting into Thursday! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE exercise extreme caution when venturing out tomorrow night-Wednesday, as roads will become very hazardous! If you don’t absolutely HAVE to leave, please stay home! The road crews will be able to treat the roads much faster if there aren’t many other cars out and about. Check out the “Winter” page to see my detailed accumulations map for this storm! Stay with Cincy Forecast for the very latest on this dangerous winter storm!

Great to hear! I really hope we get Tuesday off.
Hey Andrew!
Yeah, things are looking good for a quick thumping of snow late tonight-midday tomorrow (likely starting around 2-4am tonight)! I am going with 2-4″ for this first round ALONE, with even more snow and ice tomorrow night-early Wednesday! My totals of 4-7″ and 0.20″-0.40″ of ice still look to be spot on! Some of the newer model guidance is keeping things a bit colder, which would mean more snow (with less freezing rain and sleet mixing in)! If that does indeed occur, expect the snow amounts to be increased!
I will have a much more detailed analysis by later this afternoon!

Trevor,
I am also impressed that you have your own blog!
My students say you are correct 99% of the time. I am looking forward to my two days off
This is the first time I have looked at your website and it is so cool!! It is so much easier to locate things than it is on all the other sites I have gone to. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!
Hey Mrs. Gordon!
While I don’t think I am accurate 99% of the time (I wish), I do try my best to make as accurate a forecast as possible, because all of our lives revolve around the weather (to make plans, events, etc…)!
I really don’t think we will have school tomorrow, especially based on the new forecast model data that just came in (showed a solid 4-6″ of snow by midday Tue)! While at this time, I don’t see that happening, I am still forecasting a good 2-4” of snow! Could the new data be right? Sure…especially considering the amount of moisture we will have to work with! If future model runs show the same thing, then I will need to increase my forecasted amounts! Otherwise, we are still looking at a bit of a lull in the action for the afternoon hours tomorrow, before yet another area of snow and ice (possibly heavy), will move in for tomorrow night through Wednesday morning!
Let’s hope for the best!

Yeah. I totally hope you are right about the no school thing because I totally have no Tye-Dye things for tomorrow. >_<
But you are right 99% of the time. I’m surprised you haven’t been picked up by channel 9 news yet.
