Well, after all of the snow and ice that fell, it seems crazy that a decent chunk of it will be melting away over the next couple days as temps rise well above freezing! For Saturday, expect temps to rise into the lower 30s, all the way up into the lower 40s by Sunday! One hazard of this warm weather will be snow/ice melting and falling off of trees, powerlines, and roofs (or anything else for that matter). Falling ice can be very dangerous, and can cause severe injuries! Please stay alert of this over the next few days as the meltdown begins…
As for the potential major winter storm I have noted for early next week…it appears that the low pressure center will remain too far to the east to have a major impact on us, and nothing more than scattered rain/snow showers should be expected at this time…
First off…many area roads are still messy, so PLEASE take it slow out there! The flurries/snow showers we had off and on last night only amounted to a covering, however, that covering did accumulate on roads, many of which were icy/slushy/wet, helping to quicken the re-freeze process! Even if a road was cleared, it was most likley still wet, meaning that the formation of ice is still likely!
Today looks to be chilly with highs only making it to the upper 20s early on, before falling through the day! By tonight, temps will really begin to plummet, bottoming out in the single digits to near ZERO in some spots! That is some serious cold! Moving into the weekend, skies look to be partly to mostly cloudy, with highs rising into the upper 20s on Saturday and upper 30s on Sunday! However, new forecasting troubles lurk for early next week as a new storm system may take aim on the Ohio Valley! Some models show the storm staying to our east, while a few show us being burried by snow (10″+)! I will have a much better idea of what this next storm will do by midday Saturday, as we will be much closer to the onet, and the forecast models will hopefully be in better agreement…
Well, everyone, after over 30 hours of wintry weather, the skies have cleared! Boy oh boy were we hit hard! Many schools were closed for Tuesday and Wednesday, and now more are closing for Thursday! Thursday’s closings are due in part to power loss in some areas, as well as re-freezing of the melted snow/ice from earlier! Also, many areas have been impacted by fallen trees/branches, which has made travel less than ideal for many locations! I for one am very tired, after only getting a few hours of sleep over the past 40 or so hours of storm tracking! Just when I thought I could catch up on some sleep, another winter storm is showing up on the models! Unlike the last storm, this system looks to really get its act together over the Gulf of Mexico/Gulf Coast states before shooting up the East Coast, as opposed to sliding out of the Western US. Where it tracks will be KEY as that will determine how much wintry precip we receive! The models today have been downright amazing, showing another major thumping of snow (8″+)! Granted it is still several days away (Monday-Tuesday), the fact that the models are already beginning to trend towards another major Ohio Valley winter storm is something right there! While it is far too early to sound the horns just yet, keep the possibility of another major winter storm in the back of your minds over the next couple days, and please continue to check back here for my latest analysis!
Wow…the major winter storm CONTINUES across the tri-state, with the metro STILL enduring hefty amounts of falling freezing rain/sleet! The mixed precip will change to a quick thumping of snow by 7:30am for the metro, with a solid 1-4″ of accumulation. Folks, this is a major (catostrophic in some areas) winter storm, and the roads are horrific right now. PLEASE do not even attempt to travel…
Light to at times moderate snow continues to fall across the tri-state, and will continue to do so through the morning hours! Additional accumulations of 1-3″ are likely! By midday, most areas should have a solid 3-6″ of snow! Roads are very slick, so please allow for a lot of extra time when traveling this morning!
Well, everyone, part one of the winter storm I have been advertising for days is here! Moderate to heavy snow is being reported across a good chunck of the tri-state! Snow, heavy at times, will continue through the night, adding up anywhere from 2-5″ area-wide! Some areas are reporting THUNDERSNOW (very heavy snow rates associated with thunder)! Look out for that…as it can drop a couple inches of snow in an hour or less…

After some decent snow showers on Sunday, Monday looks to be fairly similar. Scattered snow showers/flurries are a possibility at any time, but they shouldn’t cause too much of a problem. Highs for Monday will struggle to make it out of the middle 20s! As Monday night rolls around, temps will begin to drop, and the snow will begin to increase in coverage (after midnight). The snow will continue, heavy at times, through midday Tuesday (2-4″ of accumulation in metro). Some freezing rain and sleet may mix in at times, mainly south of the Ohio River. It appears that we will see a bit of a lull in the precip for Tuesday afternoon. However, by Tuesday evening, snow, sleet, and freezing rain will once again move back into the tri-state. The precip will be heavy at times. I expect another 3-4″ of snow for the metro, as well as some decent icing by midday Wednesday. In the end, I expect a solid 5-8″ (iso 9″) of snow to have fallen, along with up to 0.40″ of sleet/freezing rain (in the metro)! That is a MAJOR winter storm! Most schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the possibilty of more rural closings lasting into Thursday! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE exercise extreme caution when venturing out tomorrow night-Wednesday, as roads will become very hazardous! If you don’t absolutely HAVE to leave, please stay home! The road crews will be able to treat the roads much faster if there aren’t many other cars out and about. Check out the “Winter” page to see my detailed accumulations map for this storm! Well, after a cold and breezy Saturday, Sunday looks to bring much of the same, minus the stiff breeze. A few scattered snow showers and flurries are possible, but there should be little to no accumulation. By Monday, high pressure will slide to our east, allowing for the return of moisture! Most of Monday looks to be dry at this point, with snow developing by late night/early Tuesday morning. Snow, possibly heavy, will continue through much of Tuesday, mixing in with sleet and freezing rain at times, mainly south of the metro. It appears that we may see a break in the action for late Tuesday afternoon through the middle of the night, before the second wave of heavy snow/ice moves into the area for late Tuesday night-Wednesday night. Several model runs in a row have showed this solution, which is encouraging me to follow as well! If the above were to occur, many schools would be out of session for 2-4 days! My forecast may still be altered over the next day or two as more information becomes available. However, based on the data available now, things look to get really ugly from Monday night onwards! Stay with Cincy Forecast for the very latest on this potential winter storm!
Ah…how nice did the temps feel on Thursday!?!? Well, you “warm weather junkies” get ONE MORE DAY of enjoyment, before the temps fall…and fall rapidly! By late Saturday, we will be in the ballpark of 20-40 degrees colder than Friday’s high! A few showers are possible on Friday, but they will be few and far between. The upcoming weekend looks cold…but mostly dry (isolated flurries)…
